Replaced a Linksys EA4200 with this router. It was easy to setup and my network was up and running in a little less than 15 minutes. The security features are nice and gives me a confidence that my network is protected. The ability to view and control the router from my cell phone is a nice addition, though I don't recommend allowing control over the internet. My EA4200 was running DDWRT. I went with the stock ASUSWRT on this router and believe it is a good substitute for DDWRT.

It was a bit tedious at first but after the update it started to work ok. Well it doesn't serve breakfast but does the help my online gaming..a lot! I had an old RT-N56U what was resetting every half an hour and needed to replace. I'm not a WiFi maniac, so I just need a steady gigabit workhorse with a heavy-duty dual core processor on a fiber line. So far so good :) p.s.I had re-flash the software with Merlin, cause the asus update screwed it up with their latest software. It is actually an AC68U unit inside hardware wise. As for Asus software team it is a BIG thumb down for their lack of features (aka by locking a tons of features) and incompetent solution of software update team by borking the unit.Very disappointing!

Bought this to use as a bridge router in my home. This was refurbished and did not come with a manual and original packaging, but I already had another one just like it and knew how to set it up. The price was fantastic, $40 less than what I spent on the other one in my home. Works like a champ and allows me to hard wire a remote smart TV to my home network and internet.

This is a very good product for the money! It has a very user friendly software package that is installed on the device and has multiple features that many higher priced router have. What makes this product a gem is that it has the ability to utilize a tethered hotspot by way of the USB drive instead of the WAN port with internet provided by a DSL. Although the router that was sent to me was defective, probably due to the fact that is was refurbished albeit by the manufacturer, I purchased another router from ASUS that worked as expected. Great product.

For quite some time I was using a Netgear dual band router and for the most part it worked just fine. Speeds on the 5g network were right up to par. However, once a day it seems it would just crash, ever since it was new 4 years ago. Decided I had had enough and I don't even play online games other than poker tournaments. Did a bit of research and discovered this one. I am a firm believer in Asus products. Have an older Asus laptop that I still depend on when traveling. Pulled the trigger on this router. Could not be happier. Have had it running constantly for the 3 weeks I have had it. It has not crashed even once. 5g wi-fi has given me constant download speeds of 80-90 mbps regardless of the time of time in a major metropolitan area. The only difference I might possibly have made would MAYBE have bought an Asus combination modem/router for roughly the same price as the Arris modem and this unit costs...about $200 combined. But then again, probably not. If one unit takes a dump I'll only be out the cost of one of them. If you want rock solid wi-fi buy this thing or the newer version of it for more money. Just know that the newer one won't really give the average user anything this doesn't for about $110 delivered.Read full review
