I replaced the Thermostat housing on a 2012 jeep patriot that was overheating due to a very small leak under the original housing, only small amount steaming off instead of any puddles, So, after installing this Dorman junk, the car was UNDERHEATING where the Temp gauge and the actual engine temperature was WAY TOO LOW, no good heat, with all new Coolant,, So then I removed the PRIMARY thermostat which is the 1 that is located INSIDE the connection that the Lower radiator hose attaches to, has 2 screws to remove the connector,. Not the Secondary one that's located against the side of the engine. This was opening way too soon and not allowing the engine to heat up to good temps, I compared the Original to the Dorman junk thermostats, the Dorman is much weaker and made in China tin junk, After installing the original Primary thermostat the car now has perfect heat and the temp gauge is at normal. So if your original thermostats are still operating good and you only need the HOUSING save your money and Don't Buy This Dorman junk, buy a brand that doesn't include the Primary Thermostat, or be sure to COMPARE the old to the new ones, BUT,BUT, BUT, make sure what you order one that includes the Large O-ring, the Square SEAL , and the Small o-ring for the Temp Sensor. These seals/O-rings are a MUST to replace !!!!also the thermostat has a Tiny notch on its outer edge, the Oring seal has a tiny tab on its inner edge, these Must line up , And there is a Tab on the outer edge of the thermostat that aligns into a notch on the plastic housing. Great part that allowed me to stop the coolant leak on my wifes car. Extent price, almost half of what it would cost me locally.
