I've been paying to get chains sharpened for years.....Even though I touch up with a file in between, it adds up.. I also notice That they sometimes just get it wrong, don't lower the rakers, grind more than necessary and leave burnt (overheated) teeth. I probably spent too much time setting up and researching the way to use this properly, but after doing a couple of chains, I am SOLD.... I cut the recommended angles on my Stihl chains and they cut beautifully. I like being in charge of how much metal to take off to get the job done. My chains are going to last longer. I gave four stars because the tooth depth stop is a little weak and tends to flex when pulling the chain back to set the cut depth. The wheel guard being screwed on is a pain to change wheels. Otherwise EXCELLENT MACHINE Read full review

I had to drill the second hole on my chain arm to put this on. The option to use it without the second knob is useless, the chain will destroy the sharpener. So after drilling is on and you hear the grinding and you think hey this may actually work. Of with it, start cutting and 5 min later dull again. Tried it 4, 5 times and same results. So back to eBay to order some new chains. And when I have the time sit back with my old rotary tool and patience to get real results.

Great grinder, quick and efficent. I normally grind 5-6 chains at a time and touch up in the field as needed. This grinder allowes me to set the angles correctly after a couple of manual sharpenings which may have thrown the angle off. Easy set up and super easy to use.

There are good things to be found about this grinder, though I was a little disappointed with a couple of specific items. The vise is the biggest limitation of this unit. It does not hold the chain well. The cam concept is great but not very well implemented. The contact surface of the cam is so small that it only grabs the drive link of the tooth you are trying to sharpen by the corner. This allows the tooth to tip during grinding even after pulling the chain against the stop securely as indicated in the manual. A slight redesign where there is a larger contact area by the cam would be a great help. The second issue is the depth stop is very flimsy and because of it does not stop the head consistently in the same place. Even when using a light touch can be very difficult to "feel" when the head has reached the stop because of so much play. Because of these issues I can't say I recommend it at this point, but if Oregon makes a couple of small improvements I think this would be an amazing grinder for sure. Hope this helps someone out there. Read full review

I had never used this type of sharpener before getting this one. It seems to work pretty well. I have just a couple of things that I wish were better. The chain clamp could be better, but works ok. The second minor complaint has to do with the instructions which only show sharpening specs for Oregon chains.
