  • Second life for an old flashlight

I decided to upgrade my old Maglite AA flash light with this LED upgrade kit. The upgrade is fast and easy. Just replace a couple of parts and you are done. There are a couple of things that could be improved. - The endcap with push button has a knurling pattern that does not match the original design and the edges are quite square. The button is not recessed and it lacks an attachment point for a lanyard. - The original flashlight is turned on and off (and focusses) by turning the front part of the flashlight. Because the replacement end cap has the push button, this turning switch is useless. Tightening the front part completely opens the circuit and prevents the light from switching on. I had to add a couple of spacers to solve this issue. The led or reflector are not completely perfect. This results in a strange pattern in the light. All in all a nice upgrade with some room for improvement.

  • Easy to install and use

This is the second time I have purchased these type of kits for two of my flashlights, unfortunately not for the right reasons. The tail cap switches of my first two both failed, one at about six months and the other at about a year. Neither one was excessively used, in fact one sat on my dresser and was only used on an occasional basis. The other was used daily and failed at about a year. the light itself is reasonably bright and the bulb seems to last as advertised. If it wasn't for liking the convenience of the switch I probably would not have purchased them again.

  • I really good money-saving and convince item worth the cost

This turns a Maglite into an easier to use item and the LED does not use as much battery power as other bulbs. Batteries last a long time. If the light is used a lot it will pay for itself sooner rather than later

  • Works great!

I have had a two AA MIni Maglite in camo color since before I retired from the USAF 22 years ago. I am a techie and love tech: computers, tablets, and have been using new little one AA cell LED flashlights but could not bring myself to get rid of it. This LED conversion kit was the first I found with everything including a round tail-cap with the on off button - AND it was inexpensive. I also read about folks having issues installing the other ones. This one was EZPZ to install. The parts fit perfectly, and then I clicked the button and . . . nothing. It used to turn on by twisting the reflector/bub end so I gave it a slight twist and voila! So instead of twisting it off and on, I leave it where I like it focused in the middle, and just click the tail button for on and off. A well engineered reflector is key to have the LED above the hole and inside the reflector for it to be able to focus from a narrow tight beam to a wide walking in the woods at night beam. They got that right too. I can't have a lanyard hole in the tail cap like the stock one because of the button. But it has the very tight pocket clip to which a wrist strap could be secured. I also have an Fenix two battery mini light that is a bit brighter with an early Cree LED. I also have a Three D-Cell Maglite in blue with normal bulb I bought just after finding it used for five bucks. I bought another brand LED conversion kit for it which was tougher to install the first time, I could do it in under a minute now, and it is bright as heck! There was sentimental value in my old mini. I am a happy camper!

  • Nite lze LED Combo upgrade

The Nite lze LED Combo is a great product! It is much brighter than the standard bulb, lasts longer, and is more durable. I dropped Maglite several times with the Nite lze LED Combo set up and there was no damage! A great upgrade!

  • Good product, confusing instructions.

Not sure why I had so many problems changing these but eventually got it worked out on all the lights. Part of the problem had to do with how focused the beam is when taking the light apart. Anyway, once I got it to work and they are great. High quality metal parts, bright LED and still adjustable beam. Glad I upgraded.

  • Worked well, seems durable

Funny review questions.... Yes, it's bright (this was a reasonable question), and yes it's lightweight just like the original components (?!)... durability remains to be seen, seems good. I liked this kit for the LED reduced current drain thus extended battery life, extended lamp life, and the end cap light switch is a nice feature. I needed a new lamp reflector anyway so this kit was ideal for me. I've had this little maglite for 30 years so I wanted to fix it instead of just getting a new one.

  • Brighter, but barely. Better to get a new torch.

It is marginally brighter than the old globe, but no where near as good as your standard/cheap new LED hand torch. Also having the button on the base now makes it more likely to accidentally turn it on. It also loses some of its durability with the new globe & switch. A cheap and simple upgrade for your old Maglite, but hardly revolutionary. I would put my money toward a name brand LED torch.

  • It is not an impressive product

It it only twice as bright as the original bulb, sounds good but the original was only 16 lumins ... With modern tech this product should be much better... the tail cap switch is a good idea, I enjoy the concept but it feels like it was made to a budget, the switch is noisy, wobbly, and rattles when you shake the flashlight. It also does not seem very water tight, the packaging doesn’t mention if it is or isn’t.

  • Simple improvement

Much whiter and brighter light, and on/off button is nice. I now just set old Maglite to narrow beam and forget it, though it is still possible to adjust beam width. Battery life improves too. Water resistance of flashlight probably goes down and you lose lanyard ring in end cap, but I don’t use these things.
