This film written, directed, and produced by Robert Rodriciez, is set in a surburban area of Black Falls (fictitious town), where all the houses look the same and everyone works for BLACK BOX Unlimited Worldwide Industries Inc., where Mr. Black's (James Spader) BLACK BOX is the ultimate communication and do-it-all gadget. Toe Thompson's parents both work at the headquarters. Toe Thompson wants so badly not be picked on by the bullies at school. A strange rock falls from the sky and hits him in the head. The rainbow rock grants wishes to anyone who holds it. Before long, wishes-gone-wrong have left the neighborhood swarming with tiny spaceships, crocodile armies, giant boogers and magical mayhem around every corner. But it's not until the grown-ups get their hands on the Rock that the trouble really starts. Now Toe and his new found friends must join forces to save their town from itself, discovering along the way that what you wish for is not always what you want. There several really neat and interesting pieces of trivia worth mentioning here: Black Falls Community is in the shape of the wishing rock. The role of Stacey Thompson was to be originally played by Alexa Vega, but a scheduling conflict with her film, Broken Hill (2009), which was filmed in Australia lead to her having to be recast, Kat Dennings was cast instead. Released theatrically in the US on the same day as Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino and Robert Rodriciez' last film was their collaboration Grindhouse (2007). Five episodes were announced in the film with title frames: Episode 0, "The Blinkers" (00:07-01:56); Episode 1, "The Wishing Rock" (30:40-41:22); Episode 2, "Alien8ed" (08:57-30:40); Episode 3, "The Miscommunicators!" (54:35-68:49); and Episode 5, "The End" (69:50-83:03). The unannounced fourth episode runs from 41:38 to 54:19 and could have been titled "The Big Bad Booger" (the title of chapter 12 on the DVD starting at 41:24) or "The Noseworthy Booger". After Laser Short sets the Wishing Rock on the catapult, Loogie Short says (40:48) "We could have taken care of that world peace problem." Laser replies "Now you're talking" and starts back to get the rock, but The Baby released the arm telepathically and thinks "My calculations show you would've figured out a way to screw it up." Both the world peace and an end to world hunger (34:46) could be achieved by the extermination of mankind. Jon Cryer (Dad Thompson) and James Spader (Mr. Black) last appeared together in the movie Pretty in Pink (1986). I'm going to give this film a 4/5 for wonderful execution and hilarity. It's quite noticeable that, when Toe has the phone attached to his head and wishes it away, he's not holding the rock as usually understood. Wasn't Crazy about this Movie in the Theatre, but in revisiting the Credits and Jimmy Bennett's awesome song on the DVD I found myself getting pulled in to the Movie too. A lot of fun! Can't reccommend the Digital Copy though. It's a code for a download but it's not nearly that simple. You have to download and install Warner Brothers Software and upgrade your Media Player. A lot more Hassle than I expected for a copy that doen't play on most portable devices. What a Joke!
It's good story great actors. I thank the director could have done a lot better job. Over all fun kid movie

The movie is a different take on film. It tells it's story by capturing your interest, then stopping in the middle of the plot, jumping to the 'past' or the 'future to give you insight, then jumps back to the present. I'm not a funny ha-ha type person so I did not find it laughing funny, but other members of the family did ! The story, after you put it all back together in your mind, is a decent one and worth getting or viewing.
This movie was a terrific family movie. Very entertaining for adults as well as children. I don't know how that this movie wasn't in theaters?.? William H Macy and about 10 other great actors made the movie hilarious and unforgettable!
