If there has ever been a perfect movie- this is it. Jake Sully is a wheelchair bound ex-Marine living in an environment where people wear face masks to block out the pollution. Earth is not portrayed as a very hospitable, kind place- as evidenced by Jakes' twin brother, Tom, being murdered for " the paper in his wallet". Tom was " the scientist" who studied 3 years to prepare him for a mission on Pandora. Because their geneome was the same- Jake is offered his brothers position- as an Avatar driver on Pandora. It takes 6 years of travel through space to reach Pandora, " the most hostile environment known to man". The movie is phenomenal- the graphics unsurpassed- and you would swear the Na'Vi are real. I won't tell you the rest of the story- you just HAVE to watch it. The extended version is mind blowing-and it comes in regular DVD, Blu-Ray - and also in 3-D . Disc 3 contains never before seen footage and deleted scenes- and documents the 5 years spent making this movie. It shows the progression from capture- to template to finished product of many scenes. James Cameron leads us through the process- from the origional conception of the story- to it's completion. Groundbreaking technology , and special effects that don't LOOK like special effects. Just amazing. The story combines so many different levels of human emotion- greed,loyalty, accountability, love.... I have to say it is my all time favorite movie- and that covers a lot of years and movies! I had "Avatar" on DVD but wanted the extra clarity of the Bluray and this 3-disc set surpassed just that expectation. This has so many features, I still haven't seen them all. Alternate cuts of the movie, family friendly settings, art galleries... barring a brain implant in the future, this is the best way to own the movie.

They did an incredible job with graphics. Much of the movie is character-based (character-morphed?) animation, and, except for one or two moments, was totally believable. The first half to three quarters of the movie was extremely entertaining and immersive. Unfortunately, the anti-military, humans-are-bad (kind of like the Disney Bambi world view) mentality took over, and it seemed to morph into a political-philosophical (kind of a Buddhist-Hindu mixture) film. From that point on, it was fairly predictable. The product arrived in excellent condition and played flawlessly.

Had the DVD version and it looked good. Just upgraded to a 65 inch OLED 4k tv and bought this version of Avatar to celebrate. Absolutely incredible and the extended edition material is a nice bonus. I have over 200 Blu-ray movies and this version of Avatar is simply the best version to show off a good TV. Sound track is also first class. Best way to listen to it is in a home theater. If you have good equipment, this disk will not disappoint. Highly recommend it.
