Great movie . Im a fan of Clint Eastwood and many of the movies he has directed and acted in .

This is a film that relentlessly and skillfully deromanticizes violence. There are little asides and murmured statements that make the film even more powerful. Like when Clint Eastwood is trying to shoot a coffee can at the beginning of the movie, his daughter asks, "Did Paw used to kill folks?" She's not expressing dismay here. She is expressing disbelief. Or Sheriff Little Bill Dagget talking about gun fighters: "They ain't men of bad character. They're men of no character, not even bad character." The violence in this movie repels the audience, rather than making them cheer. There are no good guys. We don't see a bad guy getting what he has coming. We don't see a fight between equals. There are no heroes. When Clint Eastwood takes off with Ned Logan and the Schofield Kid they are more anti-heroes than heroes. Images of the Three Stooges come to mind. These characters, like the others in the film, are very well done. There is an authentic taste of the Old West in them. They are pathetic, but they are well drawn and original. That is what makes it so good. Read full review
