It's the only data transfer cable that my company allows us f:ield service technicians to use. I use it for a manual data transfer. I have been using these for years, and they definitely move data a lot faster than the different network bandwidths in my environment—and these have always been my preference.
The software is embedded in on the cable. Plug it into two different devices (you will need admin rights), install the software on both, and then run it on both. Copy and paste files and folders. I always end up have to select everything minus 3 folders (you will see these on all profiles) in the "Documents" folder that will stop everything from copying over to the other device. If you pick what's above and below those 3—it's no big deal. I have not had any issues with any other the other folders including Edge and Chrome's "UserData" folders.
