Still a powerful and fast CPU for modern web browsers even after being 10 years old! Installed this CPU into a Dell Latitude E5530 as an upgrade from it's original 2 core 4 thread i7-3540M to this 4 core 8 thread i7-3820QM and instantly noticed faster boot times and faster opening of all my applications in a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. The original 3540M was no slouch but since I do run multiple programs at the same time, I wanted a step up in performance without purchasing a new laptop and this 3820QM totally fit the bill. The process of replacing this CPU is very simple and there a few YouTube videos showing how easy the job is. Since already having an SSD, I decided to throw in an additional 8GB of RAM for a total of 16GB and now it brings this laptop's performance even better than new! Although the power of Intel's HD 4000 integrated graphics is the same as the 3540M, which is good for up to 1440p YouTube videos unfortunately they both struggle at 4k @ 60fps, even though the laptop has a 1080p screen so not really worried there. This CPU idles about the same temp but runs about 10C degrees hotter (from 82C to 92C) only under full stress testing than the 3540M but that's due to the Latitude's E5530 small CPU heatsink limitations which it normally never sees anyways, plus I don't game on it either. I have a separate gaming PC for that. So relieved that the motherboard didn't even hesitate after the first boot with the 3820QM installed and is now a match made in heaven. Got this CPU at a great price and I'm overall impressed with it's performance. I'm very happy with this purchase so thank you seller, eBay and of course Intel!Read full review

Very nice upgrade from a dual core i5. Heat hasn't been an issue; about 5-10 degrees warmer under stress. Speed increase is quite noticeable - cut Handbrake times in half. Using this on a IMB-170 mITX board. Very efficient.

I use a laptop for my EmbyPex server and I needed a processor that could handle 4 1080p streams simultaneously. This processor has a pass mark of 8456 and is up to the task. I thought cooling would an issue since this chip has a TDP of 45 W and the chip it replaced was 35 W. I use a laptop exhaust cooling fan, and with 4 streams going at the same time, my temps average around 77-80 degrees. Powerful processor.

I bought this on a chance that my mother board could not support it. Luckily it does. 3rd generation Intel i7.. Never been happier
