I have had 2 brand new MSD starters bad out of the box. The first one was for my Firebird race car (Pontiac motor) and the Bendix was defective. It would disengage from cranking the motor almost immediately. Having this experience I knew to try this new MSD 50951 in my Chevy Truck right away as I had purchased this to have a spare. Got the starter in and it sounded perfect while cranking but when I let go of the key after engine started it had a noisy whine. I took it to a Starter/Alternator shop and he tested it on the bench right then and there. It sounded more like a grinding sound on the test bench. Didn't sound good at all. So here is another brand new MSD starter that has to be repaired On an up note, The MSD starter I had in by truck lasted 15 years and the solenoid went bad and it was good right out of the box and gave me great service. You never know when the solenoid may go bad. That's why I had this one repaired and bought a new one to have for a spare to carry with me all the time. One other note of interest, these MSD mini starters you can't easily just replace the solenoid. The whole starter has to come apart. I don't like stock size starters thats why i buy mini starters. I do believe I will try a different brand next time as I feel quality control has slackend at MSD since Holley bought them....just my opinion. Once again when MSD starters are right they are good starters, but i shouldn't have to have a brand new starter repaired. Fortunately I got this 50951 starter at a good price on EBAY Read full review
