Boss RV - 6 Review
I think if one is using distortion and/or overdrive you really need a good delay/reverb pedal and the compact BOSS RV 6 is a great choice. I bought a used one in ' Mint ' condition and I am very pleased with my decision. The features on this pedal are many including delay, spring reverb, hall, room, shimmer, modulation. Fantastic all round reverb.
This is a great pedal as are most Boss pedals it has useful sounds that I can incorporate live or for recording, Depending on the user there are reverbs that suit certain tastes and there are others that might be a little too out there. I found four out of the eight modes that are perfect for my needs and that is good enough for me. The sounds are clear and precise and have great depth with clarity and best of all it has a level knob which is a cool idea especially with this type of effect. Outstanding addition to your music
Compared to my previous pedal, this one is hands down the "Boss". The sound effects are adjustable from the type of effects, to the depth of the effects, to the length of the effects. Most notable was the clarity of the effects. As I use this for vocals and not my acoustic/electric guitar the superiority clearly stands out! What a great sound!!!
I'm not big on digital effects, but with this thing at the end of my signal chain, my sound is complete. I keep it under the shelf where the 3 knobs are accessible. One small tweak or two on certain songs and it's magic. This is the type of pedal that gives new inspiration to your music overnight. Definitely a KEEPER!!
So I bought a TC Hall of Fame first, but it had a non-sound related issue, so I had the chance to A-B these 2 units while waitng for my return auth. Hands down quality of sound better with the RV-6. Much warmer basic reverb sound compared to HOF. I use an expression pedal with this and that is very handy. The shimmer verb on this is excellent and the stereo field is also great. Love it. As good & even better than I hoped for...
I'm not a "scientific tech expert" -- but I DO know the "end results" of equipment I use. This reverb has all the effects in echo & reverb I have ever wanted. However, I have heard tighter & more distinct "delay" effects in other units, but I bought this one for it's "large marble hall / cathedral echo sound". And it's THERE! [:-D] With variations. It's a foot pedal, so you can't use it like a rack-mount, but connecting it to the "effects send/out" on my mixer, then returning in full stereo is the way I use mine. Super quite. Not just your run of the mill reverb
This unit is hands down one of the best sounding reverbs at this price point. The shimmer mode is a good one as far as shimmer's go...... Very good pedal! This has a very clean clear sound. Digital effects are very musical! I have a Boss RV-5, which I found to be a bit smoother but did not include Shimmer, which can be a very compelling effect. I was purchasing the Boss RV-6 as a gift for a friend. After adding it to my signal chain, I found it added significantly to the sound I've been chasing. I'm keeping it... And buying another one for my friend. I love Boss gear. Incredible Sound Shaping Tool For The Money
This thing is awesome. The modulate mode has been perfected from the previous RV-5 algo. It is much smoother, darker, and not as bright. Setting the tone knob at noon really is a great balance without having to tweak all that much. You can still get it plenty bright but it is just so much more balanced than the last model. The other modes sound great as well. I don't really use the room and I don't care too much for the dynamic mode though it may be useful for someone else's playing style. The shimmer is a nice addition but is much too bright and out front in my opinion. It just doesn't sit well in the mix and comes off a little distracting. You have to dial the tone way back to really make it usable and musical. It's kind of either too present or buried. This may not be a Strymon Big Sky, but all in all, this is a very versatile pedal for the money. The modulate mode is where it really shines. With everyone dreaming about a Bigsky or a RV500, I am glad I stopped my search at the RV-6. This unit has everything I need and then some. If you don't really need the bells and whistles of midi controllable presets, this unit with its mod and shimmer modes give you the two tricks that send peeps looking at the more costly units.
