Outstanding, superb sound, mediocre quality.
Harmon Kardon has always been my go-to amplifier/receiver for top quality sound, but after my experience with the AVR 1710S I my have to start looking for a new brand. Brand new (refubished) right out of the box, some letters of the logo came off. When I addressed this via email, I was directed to PURCHASE a new logo. No problem, it's only superficial. The main issue I have is the navigation of the controls and the disappointing connectivity. Networking is very limited and clumsy and selecting sources, especially Bluetooth, is extremely tedious. I bought this based on my previous experience with Harman Kardon products. When this arrived at my house, the first thing I noticed -before I even opened the box- was the weight. I thought maybe they had accidentally sent me a DVD player instead of a 700 watt receiver. It is incredibly light and that inexpensive construction is evident in the sound quality. The features are nice and pretty easy to use. The volume buttons on the remote are small and really blend in with all the other buttons that never get used. It is easy to toggle through the various sound modes. It has basic bass and treble adjustments- but don't look for an EQ. The big problem with this receiver is the sound quality. Sound quality is subjective and people have different expectations. If you think the factory stereo in most cars sounds fine, you will probably be happy with this receiver.
