This audio interface offers 10 inputs for XLR, USB/MIDI, and digital audio via S/PDIF. There are also eight analog inputs and outputs with built-in Scarlett preamps. Unbelievable technology for the money!
I'm new to mixing and recording, but fairly blown away at what all you can do with this for the cost. Clean, lag free audio. I bought it to mic up my drums, so I can control what I hear through isolation headphones. Drums are just too loud for anything else, and isolation headphones kill everything, so you can feel what you're doing, but can't hear it. Anything less and things get loud and chaotic fast. With a decent set of mics and the capabilities of the 18i20, I can thoroughly concentrate on my playing. I'm using it with Garageband and all the plugins work just fine. Great bang for your buck interface.
Set this up in my rack a few months ago. Pros: -Lightweight and small (1 unit not super deep) -I/O flexibility -Visible metering on front panel -Handy dim, mute and control room level Cons: -Getting all the features to play nice with Logic X wasn't as easy as it could have been. -Scarlett mix control is not a good piece of software (cluttered UI, limited functionality) -Pad switch on channel 2 snapped on me a few months after I bought it. Very nice interface, you cant go wrong, 8 very good sounding preamps, 24bit D/A and A/D conversion with zero or at least near zero latency allowing you to record in realtime, and the price was the icing on the cake. Excellent Interface, but this one is missing USB

Spend a little more on a Motu, save time and gain quality.
if I could go back in time I would put my money on a motu probably. Scarlet was a real bad choice, even their customer support does not work: never heard from them.
