  • The unit is OK

Well, what can I say. A nice product which works as expected from Synology. Since I owned a few similar products from Synology already, I have more confidence in it than the other brands. The only surprise was the Synology Assistant is not working. I logged on to my router first to find out its IP. Then I just logged on to the unit to set things up. Things went smoothly after that.

  • Better than I expected, does the job and does it well.

This is a nice quiet product. It was easy to slip in two 3.4" 14TB drives. The cover slides off and the drives slide in. Also includes screws and anti-shock rubber mounts to keep the drives silent. The fan isn't noticeable at all on low. The drive temps are cool even with prolonged file transfers and read/writes. There are plenty of apps included. I'm using it as a NAS, however I did move my plex library over from my PC and started using the PLEX app included with the device. This device could be anything you need with all of the different apps available: local test/dev webserver, media server, mass storage management apps, etc. The setup was easy. The browser based utility found the device quickly on my network. The interface is intuitive and simple to carve out different shared folders and private encrypted folders. It was also easy to add permissions for an app to view/read folder/files which is needed for Plex. I'm not using the Synology cloud because... OneDrive for me. I can access this device from the web anywhere I go, which is a plus. The lights are dimmable which is a nice touch. I may turn them off because I already have enough dim blue lights from other things like chargers and gadgets. Transfer rates are as good as the throughput on the NIC and R/W on the drives in Raid 0, which for me is I'd buy this (or the latest generation of this) again in a heartbeat if I ever need to expand my storage.

  • Great NAS for the money

Easy setup and many more options for the technically inclined. Very fast transfer speeds.

  • Easy to set up and lots of apps.

I had another brand of NAS previously. This one is definitely superior to that one.

  • Great once up and running

Works great as a Windows 10 NAS, or as a media/Plex server. Currently running with 2 x 2TB HDDs in SHD configuration. The 220j is sufficient, but only after it took a week scanning the drives and the media inside only 2 bays mean that your redundancy format choices are limited Fantastic little NAS if you understand its limitations

  • Synology DS220j NAS - Seems like a great piece of equipment for your LAN.

Haven't totally installed it yet, but I added a drive and plugged it in and it seems pretty easy to install and configure. Should do well. It allegedly works with my Linux/Ubuntu systems.
