  • To me very much worth getting.

Really like this router. As for a gaming setup, if you are just starting out I think it would still improve things. At the time it could run multiple game consoles & gaming PC without a hitch at the same time, so a good intro router, find what you need going further not spend a lot. The DGL has 2 big advantages: 1) it runs OpenWRT open source firmware OS, usually coded by someone when a router has been out for a while. You have to wait for someone to code it, but this adds features, security updates etc. 2) Stream Boost which moves bandwidth in real time where needed, so no one device hogs everything, leaving any else lurching. This was a big touted feature of the router. I had a VOIP phone device for years that gave me no problems, was plug & play. But it finally quit. So I got another new in box, but it was not the same copywrite year nor did it act the same. Was working but more problems than expected. No way to config on the device, that's done by the router. So I got a newer router, changed settings & that fixed some but not all. Calls cut out at 15min like on a timer. Very irritating in a house line many calls come to. Newer routers do a different priority than the DGL - even given 1st place VOIP timed out. Seemed to me after 15min it was starved of bandwidth, can not get any more. What the DGL-5500 does is move resources constantly, always keeping a little in reserve for a sudden uptake. Did it work? Its early days but yes, VOIP phone has gone back to being plug & play like my 1st one, no config necessary. To me very much worth getting. Recommended.

  • Everything I could ask for and more

I purchased this router because I had recently installed a new 802.11ac wifi card on my desktop and my old wireless n router just wasn't cutting it. I play games online and stream the gameplay so I need my wifi to handle it without issues. This router keeps up with everything I throw at it and still has the headroom to download movies and music while I'm doing my thing. Definitely recommended!
