A Nice Fantasy Chess Set - Not much "Harry Potter" about it. Pieces are nice, but hollow and uncapped.
This is a Chess Set based on Harry Potter - but the pieces are not Harry as King on the light side and The King Who Shall Not Be Named on the dark side. They are fantasy versions of the standard King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, and Pawn. The pieces are large and well molded. I love the fact that the King and Queen both have on armor and weapons - which makes perfect sense as they are actively and directly involved in war. The board is nice enough. It's a thicker game board, not like a cheap throw-away checker board. Again, nothing particularly "Harry Potter" about it. (Which is a good thing from my perspective.) The only problem I have is that the pieces are hollow plastic - thicker plastic, yes, but still hollow and top heavy. (They are several inches tall - most, except the pawns - are well over 3 or even 4 inches tall.) The bottoms are just open holes - no felt, not even a capped plastic bottom. This does mean one could fill them and cap them oneself - if one knows how to do such things. It is a very nice looking and different looking chess set.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The board is foldable cardboard and the pieces are plastic, but this makes it more durable for children as it is less likely to break if dropped.
