  • Works even past its design!

I bought this because my gals Grandpa has doors from the 30's in his house that only had a 1-5/8" bore for door knobs. I chucked this tool up to the door and was able to bore the holes out to the modern size hole without being able to use the center drill bit to keep the hole saw from going crazy and wondering. I did have to use an additional quick grip to aid in the clamping strength, but I would not of had to, had I been able to use the centering drill bit in a raw/new door. I also really appreciated the option of a 2-3/8" or a 2-3/4" spacing to match what ever hardware you've purchased. (Most door knob assembly's will fit either). The only suggestion I would make, is that while drilling with the hole saw, the hole saw/centering bit assembly really tightens up on its threads, so take a wrench and a channel lock with you for changing from the large hole saw to the small hole saw. Or, just take your own hole saw kit with you and you won't need to make the change on the job.... Cheers...

  • I like the Dewalt unit better

This is a decent fixture and comes complete with everything needed to install a door lock set, including several screw-size drill bits. I particularly like the hole stop that prevents drilling completely through the door from one side. The hole saws are typical quality Milwaukee units - no problem. Where I think the unit falls short is the strength/stability of the fixture clamp and the fact that it uses small rubber pads that are stuck on the frame to prevent marring. These pads are easy to dislodge and really don[t provide enough surface area to hold the fixture rock steady when drilling. The sliding large hole guide is convenient for changing setback, but is not quite as stable as the slightly more cumbersome eccentric insert arrangement used on the comparable Dewalt unit, which I also have. The Dewalt also uses small rubber contact pads, but perhaps because because it is a one-piece frame with a conventional screw clamp arrangement, the fixture is rock steady when drilling. On the plus side, the self-centering latch hole guide on the Milwaukee accommodates any thickness of door automatically, while the Dewalt can be set only for 1 3/8" or 1 3/4" inch door thicknesses. In summary, the Milwaukee unit is a good tool with convenient features, but when I go to drill holes in an expensive door for a new lockset, I always use the Dewalt unit because of its stability and the fact that I only work with standard thickness doors. However, I do use the large hole saw and the hole saw stop from the Milwaukee kit to keep from potentially splintering the door if the hole saw penetrates the back surface.

  • ACCURATE AND DEPENDABLE

This door jig is so easy to use it made the job of drilling out the doors a breeze. I made sure while drilling I took it easy with the pressure on the hole saws and had no problem with scraping the inside of the jig and damaging the plastic sidewalls like I have seen in other reviews on this product, take a little time and you won't have the problem. Also the clamping system with the fig works very well.

  • Works like a charm!!

I went out and spent money on the Craftsman door jig. What a joke!! It broke within the first week. I now own the Milwaukee door jig and it works great and the construction design is much better. Won't be breaking this one anytime soon.
