    Works good reads through dry wall good from a fair distance. Not selective anything having voltage it picks up so be aware of items that are in the vicinity when using. Good to know what is and what is not behind that wall before drilling or nailing.

    Uniquely sensitive and a mini flashlight

    I have been in the electrical trade for many years and have owned more non-contact testers than I can remember. One such tester that really impressed me was so sensitive that I could pick up voltages from outside of a switch cover plate. When I discovered and purchased the Milwaukee Dual Range Detector, I was very pleased to find it has even greater sensitivity around line voltage than I had ever seen from any other tester. Of course, I get more false positive signals now, but I have an assortment of other testers to help weed out the false signals if needed. The little built in flashlight is helpful for some of the troubleshooting I do. Especially while looking for scorched wires behind failing or dead receptacles.

    Great tester

    Other then the power button being touch and go once the tester gets some wear and tear, it's my favourite tester. The flashlight feature and compact size make up for the button shortcomings

    Milwaukee 10-1000V Dual Range Voltage Detector

    As a Voltage detector it seems to be too sensitive in the Low voltage range. There are two different sounds it makes for High and Low voltage, and it will take some time to recognize the sounds. If I just touch it the alarm goes off for Low voltage. A little confusing for me when you are dealing with a force that could kill you. I recommend and like the other version of this device that only senses one voltage range.

    Dual Range Tester

    I have been looking for a tester that would work for automotive uses, without penetrating the insulation, unable to find such a product. I needed to replace my household tester and ran across this product. Milwaukee makes high quality tools, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm very pleased. At first I thought it was a little too sensitive, but after using it for a while and getting used to it, I love it.

    Better Than Nothing, But...

    Many false readings. When I walk across my front yard it will beep in my shirt pocket, even though there are no underground or overhead power lines in this area of my property. Very slow to pick up low voltage in the 15-25VAC range, not very impressive with voltages in the 50-120VAC range including some false positives on circuits that were locked open & tagged, but very sensitive above 200VAC.

    This unit is very useful. It can detect voltages that are present in HVAC systems, door bells, low and high voltage landscaping lighting, and DCC used in model railroading. It will locate buried landscaping cables. When used with DCC will detect breaks in power in the rails.
