  • E-bow

The E-bow is a gizmo for the curious guitarist searching for new sounds. With this one you can make your guitar sound lika a violin, flute. You cam make it sound as if you're playing backwards (!?). Be advised though because it takes som practice to master this. Haven't been able to master "sweeps" over the fingerboard using it, though the manual clearly says it's possible. It's amazing to find how many guitar-players that have been using it even though I never thought of it before. One in particular is The Edge of The Irish band U2. Listen for instance to the song "With or Without You" if you want a clear example.

  • A Cool toy, but gets old fast

I imagine I'll be relisting it in a couple of weeks. If you've seen the videos then you know that the closer you get to the pick-ups (by going up or down the string) the louder or more strongly it vibrates the string. But, what I didn't know is that each string must be played a different distance from the pick-up (Again, up or down the string) to achieve the same vibration or harmonic resonance as the string next to it. In other words the distance from the bridge is different for every string. Not the height (distance) above the pick-up. I hope that made sense to u, it's hard to describe. Also worth noting is that you must keep the Ebow in-line with strings at all times or it won't work properly either. So, yes, there's definitely a trick to it, and it is a fun little gizmo, but it only does one thing, so it gets old fast. I'm glad I got a used one at only 67 bucks. I would never pay $100. I don't see myself using it that often. I know there's a lot of dudes on youtube who revolve their entire repertoire around the Ebow. To me, it's just a simple toy. A toy that gets old fast. I hope this review was helpful.

  • the older Ebow is much better

Ive had several of these. The older ebow is much better. The new ebow is slightly bulkier and works exactly the same except the battery cover does not close tightly and tends to pop open. You will likely want to tape it down.

  • Uniquely Useful

For what the Ebow does, there are few alternatives. I could wish for it to be sturdier for the price (it looks like it'll explode if ever I drop it), but since there's no better alternative to do what I need to do, it'll suffice.

  • It is a bit limited but almost a necessity for ambient guitar. It makes some beautiful sustain sounds like an organ Takes a little time to learn.

  • Such a great tool.

Or is it a toy? Well a little bit of both, but it is absolutely fun and effective. More a a tool for ambient style guitar players. Provides infinite horn/flute/strings - like sustain, depending on where on the fretboard you play. Made for electric but also works on my epiphone masterbilt, albeit in a limited fashion, only ringing the 5 smallest strings.

  • Lots of posibilities

Takes a bit to learn it's operation, but once you get used to how it works, it comes alive. I've been using it on an acoustical with a sound hole pickup and flat wound strings. not so much without amplification. A lot more voice options with an electric.

  • great fun

A very interesting unit. I play Bass so it is quite a challenge to use but well worth the effort .It is definitely another great tool to have in your sound spectrum,

  • Pretty cool

A nice addition for anyone looking to add something to their arsenal. Goes great with a loop pedal . It's amazing on electric guitar and works well with acoustic also.
