Been using Kidde for years. Last one went for a year longer than warranty. This one has 10 year. Probably last longer than me. Very necessary as we have a wood stove. Plug is rotatable in case you have outlet installed horizontally. Unit does not block second outlet in vertical box as it can be plugged into the bottom outlet. Just keep in mind, THIS IS NOT A SMOKE DETECTOR, checking to see if it works by blowing cigarette smoke at it will not work!
