Exceptional Sound
This is just a great audiophile level sound card for a reasonable price. Too bad it's made in China, but I suppose it would cost twice as much if it were made in Japan. This is my second ASUS Essence STX; the first one went belly up after many years of service. The clarity of sound and definition are really great. The software is a bit complicated, but offers a lot of adjustments if that is what you like. This easily sounds better than my Nuprime DAC9 and my Oppo HA1. The timbre of instruments is almost scary. YOu can hear the bow striking and grinding across the srtrings on a violin, the reverbant tubbiness on an acoustic bass, and every nuance of overdrive coming from a distorted strat. Just amazing. Opamp replacement option is silly (silicon opamps job is to be transparent) and drivers are silly (Download the Uni Drivers) but, if you have a high-priced setup or pair of uber headphones?
