Good For Most Devices - Inexpensive
The Good: Inexpensive. Plug and play. Works with most HDMI devices. The Bad: Probably not the best option for a Raspberry Pi Model 3 or any low power HDMI device. The RPi3b is low power. If you wish to convert HDMI to VGA it may be best to get a powered HDMI to VGA adapter for the RPi3b. When this adapter is plugged into the RPi3b it consumes a lot of power to the point there are a constant lightning bolt symbol on screen and slowing the machine down. Not so with straight HDMI. Use old VGA monitor with HDMI device
I have a bunch of older working VGA monitors. I also have a Raspberry Pi and a HDMI output tablet I wanted to use for light internet apps like watching YouTube videos. This device worked better then expected. Even though this device does not have an audio connector, a patch cable from the RPi or from the head phone jack of the tablet worked perfectly for feeding audio to [headphones, stereo, monitor audio input]. Images are rock solid and it even works with my laptop.
