I got this because I wanted something that would work with Linux and Windows to supplement or replace the built-in Ethernet port, which suddenly sometimes decides it does not want to work, on my old notebook computer. And it does work great with Linux and Windows both. If you have the most recent kernel of Linux, it doesn't even need drivers, it works instantly! All I had to do was just plug it in and start up Ubuntu 16.04 and start browsing the internet. It was slower getting it to work in Windows 7. I had to wait for Windows 7 to download drivers for it after I plugged it in. I did what the instructions suggested and turned on wifi (built into my notebook computer) and downloaded more recent drivers, rather than using the ones on the disk that came with the adapter. Using wifi, Windows 7 found the newer drivers automatically. On my other really old notebook with dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.2, I used the drivers disk that came with the adapter. The Windows 7 drivers worked, and didn't take as long to get started with as downloading newer ones using wifi did. The Linux again worked well without drivers. I'm really glad I have the newer Linux kernel, because if you have an older one, you have to compile a driver from source code. Yikes! On Windows 7, once I had the adapter set up, I used it to download Windows Updates. That notebook only has USB 2.0 ports, and it was quite a lot slower than on the other notebook with a USB 3.0 port. The download of Windows Updates was VERY slow using USB 2.0. I ended up unplugging the adapter and using the built-in ethernet port. Another of the main reasons I got this adapter was that it has USB 3.0, which is lots faster than 2.0. I feel like this is a good quality product that functions well. Using USB 3.0, it works pretty much as good as, or maybe a little better, than a built-in Ethernet port. But using USB 2.0 it performed worse than built-in Ethernet, at least when using Windows 7. (Note: I was also using the older drivers in addition to using USB 2.0). It came with good instructions and a disk with drivers. Which is a good thing in case a person does not have wifi on their computer, they would need the drivers disk which is included. Especially if they had no access to the internet at all unless they installed this kind of adapter. If you have no internet access to start with, I guess once you have this adapter installed, you could go to the website and get the newer drivers. Except if using Linux with a recent kernel, in which case it doesn't need any drivers. For Windows or Mac you need drivers, or if you are using an older version of Linux. It is probably better to use newer updated drivers with it if possible. Looks like you can download drivers from Plugable.com. I think the ones on the main page are the same older ones that are on the disk that came with it. But there is a link to a page with the newest drivers. And apparently Chrome, like Linux, has built-in support for this adapter. Also I think Windows 10 has built-in support for it. Anyway, it's a pretty good little adapter.Read full review

Works as advertised. Had interference with wireless mouse that was caused by the USB 3 port the dongle was using but a quick response from tech support resolved that problem.

I needed a Gigabyte Ethernet adapter for my laptop and bought this product. It worked perfectly. Now I have 1 gigabyte network speed to my router. Great product, easy to install, Windows found all the drivers.

Bought it to diagnose a (home) network problem; never used one before so was skeptical. Installation was easy enough on Win7 & Win10 platforms. Performance was beyond expectations @ over 200 Mbps (!) on lappie & desktop. Great addition to toolkit.

Great way to bypass the 10/100 nic card built into my laptop. Now can enjoy 10/100/1000 ethernet and not have to trade up my whole laptop.

If for any reason current adapter doesn't work as it should this little gadget works like a champ !

Not the cheapest adapter, but there's a reason for that! The ASIX chipset is really important if you want your adapter to be well supported and actually get gigabit speeds. The other cheaper adapters just won't cut it...trust me, I tried, and ended up buying these instead!

I love this little gadget. Gives your speed a real boost to be connected via ethernet instead of wifi.
