  • "A solid description of the Vikings and their legacy"

It contains important historical data that is basically ignored in educational history classes, at all levels, and books. It, in essence, verifies the family lore that relatives ion Denmark have shared with me. How many Irish are aware that Dublin was founded by the Vikings? Or that in the 8th through 12th centuries because of their raiding and exploration the Vikings changed the course of history. Normandy was founded by the Vikings during the period when they were raiding Europe, primarily along the western coast, which included a successful siege of Paris. At one point they controlled half of both Ireland and England, and later the King of Denmark was King of England for 19 years. In addition to discovering Greenland and Iceland, in 1000 AD Leif Erikson, son of Erik the Red sailed to North America, which he named Vinland because of the large quantities of wild grapes. Vikings also went to the east and south, establishing trading posts in the Baltic States, Russian and throughout the Mediterranean including Sicily and Istanbul. They also were active in the Byzantine Empire, the Black and Caspian Seas, along with Lisbon.
