The product works at described. But that simply is not good enough.
The product works as described. But that simply is not good enough. I am so sick of poor designs and this machine is loaded with them. The cord manager hangs under the start trigger. The cord gets stuck under the trigger preventing it from working. The height adjustment is horrible and I can't get it to stay in the only space I want to use. This machine should be cordless. I paid $100 for the proper extension cord but would rather pay an extra $150 for a tool that was cordless. The machine is clumsy and has to be lifted into place. There is no way to easily lift this machine. A center bar would fix this issue. The motor should also propel the machine for a consistent application. I have bare spots where I slowed down.

This Sun Joe Electric lawn Dethatcher is much better then I thought it would be. I first used it today on a lawn I want to replace. It worked flawlessly. With a lot of little stones in the ground I thought the blades would be bent. They were not. I do highly recement this unit.

It sure is compact. When it comes missing the handle, it’s only a foot tall. I expected a refurbished machine to be completely gone through and inspected to ensure that it is fully functional. When they can miss that there are 4 handle pieces that aren’t included in the box, how confident can you be that they didn’t overlook any of the little pieces? When I reached out to Sun Joe, they wanted me to register it and then file a claim to get the handle. I had no confidence that it would be that easy and that I wouldn’t be spending a whole lot of time trying to diagnose other problems and filing more claims due to their shoddy refurbishing inspection. Needless to say, I sent it back.

A fun way to prepare your lawn
I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Sun Joe Dethatcher but it proved to be easy to use and a fun tool. I say fun compared to the very cumbersome and heavy type tillers I have used in the past. One pass across the lawn was more than adequate and I was ready to plant the rye seed. This is a great little machine that I think will do the job and last a long time. Mike Morales

Second times a charm!
Unit #1. Yes, it's plastic! But a heavy grade plastic. It's lightweight. It arrived quick & was easy to assemble.Well, two washers were left over-but found the way home to the screws securing the handle. Pluged in and hit the start lever (nearly a two handed job with the safe start button) Oh, Oh, DOA. Zilch. Nada! Called the 888 # and worked with a nice man as we changed cords, redid proceedures, and verified power available. Still DOA! So, a few days passed and the new unit arrived, The repacked old DOA unit was picked up later. Unit #2 assembled with ease. A 10mm wrench is needed to change the in-place.scarifier head for the de-thatcher...a very simple proceedure. A phillips screwdriver secures the screws for the handle. EasyPeasy! Unit #2 then went to work. I de-thatched 7000 sq.ft. in a few lazy hours. The catcher bag does a fair job but needs to be dumped often. I preferred going bagless, following with the bagger/mower. Im HAPPY!

Good dethatcher
The scarifier/dethatcher does a great job at removing buildup in the lawn. It's easy to setup, and quickly pulled a shocking amount of debris from our yard. The only downside is the included bag fills up very fast if you have a lot of thatch.

Good machine but no reconditioned.
Works great but arrived with wrong middle part of handle (replaced by company), and the wheel elevation adjustment lever broken( no replacement available??) so I had to repair myself. Then worked great. Wish I had just ordered a new unit.

Works well for the cost. Used on approximately 1/4 acre area of my lawn and removed about 8 lawn bags of thatch. Be aware the case is plastic and the discharge cover is rather flimsy. Came loose on me once while emptying the bag but snapped right back together. The bag had to be emptied very often due to its small size. Had to go over the area with bagging mower afterwards to pick up the clippings. Overall a nice machine and a good value for occasional home use.

This product came broken. I would not recommend.
The plastic pin that stops the height lever is completely broken. Before I had noticed this was an inoperable I was using the dethatcher. It ended up gouging my grass I then looked at the box to figure out what was wrong and saw a little plastic piece. Flipped the machine over just to see it had broken off before I even took it out the box. I taped the handle to the frame to hold the height that I needed. In my opinion machine works fine after I had to taped it. but there are other machines out there and I think I would have been better off spending my money with a different company.

Nice machine. Replace drive belts are currently unavailable if you need one though.
It tackled 20 years of built up thatch and aerated my yard nicely. Only problem was before I could finish, the drive belt broke. Sunjoe doesn't have a single replacement belt available. Sunjoe is sending a whole new machine instead. I hope they get some replacement belts. I get the feeling I'll be breaking more of them.
