We bought two versions of this movie and enjoyed the 2008 version better because the actors felt more appropriate. The story is basically the same and you get that same feeling of disgust for the open conceit and selfishness of some and the compassion for the self-sacrifice of others. I also liked that the main character wrote her thoughts in a diary in the other movie as well because it really brought out her deep feelings of love and ability to see the situation through the eyes of others. An enjoyable movie on the whole.

This is a classic English production of a Jane Austin novel. On display is the wealth and vanity of British aristocracy, within a family indifferent to the talent and feelings of its youngest daughter. But, alas, in the end, love prevails. This movie production is very well acted. Flawless, actually.

If you're a true Jane Austen fan, then be SURE to avoid this movie! Ugh! No chemistry whatsoever between the two main characters, Anne looks like a deer in headlights most of the way through the movie. It skips and jumps around literally. In a scene where Anne is riding a carriage, the camera literally jumps up and down with the carriage, like it was being filmed with someone's cell phone! The sound is very bad - you have to turn up the audio on your viewing device quite high. The costumes look like something they dug out of an old trunk somewhere and just put them on the actors' backs. Truly awful, but completely great if you're looking for a good laugh. I personally think that these movies BASED on classics should have someone who actually understands the story write the screenplay, and they should hire actors that have actually read the book as well. Truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen.Read full review

Been wanting to own my own copy of this movie ever since I saw it. I watch it at least once every year. Second chance love is sweet.

The best Persuasion adaptation! This 1995 BBC production is considered the best of various adaptations, truest to the novel. Excellent acting, settings. Well done!
