The mantle is the lightbulb of an incandescent lantern. If the mantle performs poorly, so will your lantern. The Peerless 24-A mantles (same size equivalent to Coleman's larger #99 mantles) function flawlessly and are consistently of good quality. They burn in uniformly and I have not had a mantle failure during normal use. They produce a soft, white light that makes my Coleman 200A lantern shine almost as brightly as my Coleman 220/290 dual mantle lanterns. I'm so impressed, I've ordered the Peerless 2C-HG mantles (Coleman #21 equivalent) for my double mantle lanterns. Coleman quality has become spotty in the last several years so it's almost a crap-shoot if I get flawless performance from Coleman products. I've had a few Coleman mantles fail at burn-in but not the Peerless mantles. I'll never be without a light source where/when no electricity is available. Highly recommend.Read full review

Peerless mantels seem brighter than the others I've used and don't break once lit when I'm driving on the back roads or trails. They work just fine
