Jesse Stone is a particular taste. Action is not mind-blowing. The story is more cerebral which I think makes it very interesting. Dialogue is unique between characters and is seen in all the movies, by that I mean somewhat clipped responses which require more responses. You end up liking the interaction between the mob characters, Geno Fisk, Hasty, and others. The movies build starting with the first. You can watch in any order but you will miss some of the events and their relationship to the story lines. William DeVane as Tom's counselor also brings much background to light. I have watched them over several times and still find them interesting. The addition of the dogs, Boomer, Reggie, and eventually Steve, help with Tom Selleck's character as he lives alone by the seaside. There is action, but it is not the stuff of modern movies where that is all you have. I would recommend them to anyone above majority in age. While the later films diverge from the Robert B Parker novels, they are all well written and engaging. The actors are uniformly excellent, and Selleck is perfect as the flawed police chief. Photography is beautiful, and the music suitably introspective and moody. One caveat: the separately purchased discs have sub-titles, but the discs in this collection have only closed captions, which on my TV/player combination, requires a different procedure to access.

I love the story line. Jessie Stone (A.K.A. Tom Selleck) is a great detective/police chief with a past drinking problem. His wife dumped /left him while they were living out west. He developed a drinking problem. He got fired for being drunk on the job. He moves to the EAST COAST to try to have some sort of a semblance of a life. This is where the story begins. He is still deeply in love with his ex-wife and he can't/won't let go. The fact she calls every night to check on him and tell him about her latest man, doesn't help. His character is my idea of the perfect man, smart, compassionate, flawed and wonderfully human. Definitely nobody's fool. And Oh what Amazing... Amazing cinematography ! The small town of Paradise is on the coast with lighthouses, boats and everything beautiful!

I have always loved this series. Tom Selleck plays his characters so smoothly, even though they have their quirks and issues. This was a great series and I hope there is more! Tom Selleck was on the tonight show and said "He would like to do them all" I think this is easily one of the best "made for TV" movie series made. This DVD package contains all of the Jesse Stone movies made to date and is one of the few DVD sets I own. Well worth it IMHO... The set that I got had 5 dvds containing nine movies. However where I was not happy was when i got to the third disk which was suppose to contain Death in Paradise and No Remorse and to my disbelief both movies were No Remorse and when you get to about a 1/4 of the movie the thing freezes and will not go past that spot. So I only got 8 movies and one doesn't work for a total of seven.
