Works great with a 4K TV.
I bought this unit as my "old" Pioneer VSX-1019 did not have the chops to work well with a new LG 4K smart tv. I was amazed by the better sound with default settings. I have a Bose Acoustimass 10 5.1 system. It has great on-screen menus and is easy to program. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it was advertised as having the ability to work with 2 zones simultaneously. That is not totally true. It was a pain to setup. Also it will not work with 4 ohm speakers. My second zone has Bose speakers and I had to buy a second amp to power them. Thank goodness for my Harmony Elite. I was able to program it to make it all work seamlessly. Otherwise I would have been in remote control hell trying to do all that I wanted to do with the Sony.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

The best STR-DN series yet
I am enjoying this AV Receiver so much since I connected it. The wireless audio streaming is amazing. It has Bluetooth with NFC connectivity for a quick connection to compatible devices with just a tap. I am also able to stream from my iPhone as well as Airplay. Still trying to figure out how the Chromecast built-in works. The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Object-Based Surround Sound is amazing. I have connected the 7.2 channels speakers and get the best sound ever. I have not yet tried expanding the audio/video experience beyond the living room with a powered 2nd zone, plus an available 3rd zone connectivity and control, but think it will be amazing. Don't care how old the DN1010N design is. It's still good.
The receiver has been installed and working just fine since I received and installed it. Just no problems that aren't of my own making (such as accidentally over-voluming my subwoofer). It's only a 4 star rating because it's used and has some really light, hard to spot wear on it. I can't even call them scratches, plus you have to look REALLY closely to see any. Aside from that, it looks great. It's only a 4 star because it's not absolutely 100% perfect... but if I wanted that, I'd have bought a non pre-owned one. Price was excellent. Was more than willing to pay what was asked to get it. Don't care what the audio mags say about the age of the design. It still works great and sounds great. Pairs well with other Sony Products
Pros & Cons: pairs readily with my Sony x900E, but the TV remote negates the receiver remote and the TV remote makes use of the features of both more complicated. Not as feature full on the music/sound side of the equation. The sound menu for both music and TV programming are much more limited than what my Yamaha AV could do. The Yamaha was simply a better & more diverse sound producer. But if you want 4K content (and improved 1080p) with your Sony 4K TV (the visual end) and very good sound from the accompanying video feeds, you will like this Sony receiver very much.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

sound quality is GREAT. Miss the am band
Enjoy the STR-DN 1080. sound quality is amazing. i I am using Klipsh speakers and can hear details I never heard before. wish I had a written manual to really learn all of it's features. As the receiver does not have an AM band I have learned to use the blue tooth feature to get my stations. It took me some time to understand how best to set my speaker pattern up because of room characteristics. (Large, open area with cathedral ceiling) But once I did...wow! 4k picture looks almost like 3D and the sound system fills every part of my odd-ball layout. STRDN1080 is absolutely the best bang for buck receiver you can get at this price point. Set-up and sound calibration was a breeze and the interface is really slick. And although there are a lot of options and things to play around with; everything felt easy and simplified. Coming from an eight-year-old Pioneer VSX 1019AH-K the sound improvement was immediately noticeable. The detail and imaging on the surround sound is amazing, Bass authority is enhanced and not overdone. Conversations now seem louder and properly mixed on the center speaker. Sony 1080 receiver.
Hooked up the receiver and the sound is quite good. I’ve owned Denon Marantz Yamaha and would say this unit keeps up with all them. The sound was quick and easy to calibrate and really enhanced my def tech speakers. The video os quite good just remember only upscales 1080p 24 to 4K. Excellent quality audio and easy setup
Glad to receive this unit in excellent condition. Unit was packaged securely, and all of the manuals, remote, and measurement mic were included. So far unit has worked flawlessly for my 5.1 system, and I hope to add two height channels, since the unit can output Dolby Atmos. Sony AV Receiver
Great price for the features offered. It was not easy to setup. I had to get Sony tech support involved. discovered the Amazon Fire Stick was interfering with the setup. Once that was resolved, was able to complete the setup. UPDATE: discovered my rear surround speakers were not working. Called Sony tech support and after several unsuccessful troubleshooting attempts, they issued me RMA to send in for repair. So after over $400 for a "new receiver" that did not work, it is on the second week of being in the shop for repair. I am not happy about this.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
