  • Great when it works, but power supply died withing 30 days

Bought this from the official Razer shop on eBay as a refurbished item. It broke within 30 days. *sad* When it worked, it was great though! Powered my portable gaming device through the USB-C port while providing a much superior gaming experience. But after a couple of weeks, it started to simply disconnect from my device as if it had been powered down. The only way to resurrect it was by detaching the power cord fully and waiting 10+ minutes. Eventually, that stopped working too. As far as I can tell from what I have observed, the power supply failed, making the whole contraption useless. Now I have to send it in for a warranty repair. Took me an hour to fight my way through the Allstate Protection claims system, but I got a shipping label for it. Of course, I got rid of the box as soon as everything was working, so that's one more hurdle to overcome now. And I have no idea how long it will be in the shop for. If they will replace it, fix it, or just refund me eventually.

  • It works... sometimes.

My initial impression of this product was pretty good. I was impressed with the build quality and the looks. After installing my card and downloading the software the experience was as expected. I played for a few hours and went to bed. The next morning I started up my computer and ran into a "Thunderboldt device may not work properly" message... Cutting to the chase here, I've tried everything from reinstalling drivers to a clean installation of windows with moderate success. I have yet to pinpoint the exact causes of my woes but the "true plug and play" experience should not be trusted as advertised. Also holy hell, it's much heavier than I imagined it would be(which I guess is a testament to it's build quality). People don't really talk about that but I guess this is a good thing. RGB is worth it when it decides it's going to work. TL;DR: I had a lot of trouble getting this to work consistently with my laptop (Lenovo yoga 15") your mileage may vary depending on your hardware and if they have worked out the software bugs.

  • It works!

The housing is meant to handle a beast of a graphics card. I needed a solution for both the Mac OS environ and PC world. So I went with a used AMD card (VEGA FE). The CHroma Core X handles the GPU perfectly. It doesn't even look bad on the desktop. The USB hub disconnecting is a real issue, but fortunately, I don't need those ports.

  • Transformed my laptop into a top of the line gaming machine!

The Core X Chroma is an amazing choice for folks with a thunderbolt laptop that want to enjoy desktop class performance with a full-sized GPU. It also doubles as a docking station for 4 USB ports and provides enough power to charge my laptop as well. Slotted with a modern graphics card I was able to push out incredible framerates to my 49" Samsung Odyssey G9 from a LAPTOP. A+

  • Clean and Convenient

Clean design, with super convenient usb connections. Waiting on a graphics card to come in, but I'm sure it will all be worth it and working fine upon arrival.

  • Great design but very heavy

Don't even think about traveling with this thing. With the gpu it comes out to like 15 pounds. It's ridiculous, and I think a little unnecessary. They could have used lighter materials that were just as strong

  • Excellent product.

The Razer Core X Chroma was very easy to set up with my GPU (purchased separately) and easy to connect to my laptop and external monitor. I am now able to play games that I couldn't before on my laptop! The graphics look awesome. Also, the box looks cool and you can customize the lighting. Very happy with this purchase.

  • not worth it

Kinda misses the mark. Cheap power supply. Took it to a computer shop and troubleshooted for hours before we got it working by swapping power supplys. Such a finicky design. Non standard power supply mount and adapter is hell. Had to greatly physically modify hardened case. Many cards including 40 series just don't work. Only makes sense if you have a box of modern video cards and tons of power supplies to run through to find a working combo.

  • Beastly eGPU Enclosure

Pictures and reviews don't do justice to the size and weight of the Core X - its solid, big enough for full length tall thick GPUs. Can be a little confusing if you've never used an eGPU before, couldn't figure out when it wouldn't power on. It has to detect the host TB interface to signal it to start up.

  • Awesome

Have a Dell precision laptop with a Quadro P2000, it struggles to do any decent gpu processing. Great i9 but gpu lacks. The Razer eGPU totally solved that with a desktop card. Now running nvidia 3080 off that laptop and it’s quite literally 5 times quicker. The USB ports don’t seem to work as well as expected but that’s solvable in other ways. Probably didn’t need the Chroma version.
