First of all, I am not a too big fan of the 4th edition. IMHO it is to much driven by single and/or short scenes (i.e. "MTV-style"). Since I grew up with orginal D&D and also the first two editions of AD&D this might be explained with my age and my traditional attitude towards roleplaying games. Never the less the quality of the books - especially the artwork - has greatly improved. Of course I have read nearly any older book regarding the Underdark - including the novels from R A Salvatore. For me this book is a good addition to my collection and thus adding scent and other senses to 'my' underdark. However if this would have been my first book ever on the Underdark I am not sure if I would have gotten the message. From a content perspective I would rate this book as average + 1 notch 'bonus' for high-quality artworkRead full review
I wanted this because my group was going to start exlporing this area. It has some awesome ideas in it, and some cool story hooks. If I had one complaint, it's a little thin and could use more art.
somewhat of a let-down, although it contains some game material to play an adventure, it is too new of a version, but even that is outdated now, too many monsters, too dark, not enough dark drow elves, too many grotesque monsters similar to illithid, etc. Seems of to be of little use...
