This latest hawk from cold steel is a solid entry based on historical trade axes from the Hudson Bay company. The steel is good; I know because I did a bit of filing and grinding on the edge. All Cold Steel Hawks need this. Hence not five full stars. You will also need to file off high spots on the handle with a convex rasp or sandpaper. This gives you a nice friction fit without that annoying set screw. Once you are done you have one heck of a user.

Very simple and very rugged. I gad one from SOG that broke after ten minutes of chopping small branches for kindling. Definitely not so with this one. Really pleased that I bought two of them. Cold Steel products always give good value for the money spent.

Initially I was not sure about this axe, but a few youtube reviews convinced me to buy it. I was pleasantly surprised. Quality is great and the axe came exactly as expected. Yes, it requires minor customizations, such as resharpening, and refitting the handle, but all is very manageable. You also need to purchase a sheath separately, since it does not come with any, and this is probably the only negative thing I can say about it. I highly recommend this thing to anybody who needs light axe.
