Enterprise depicts a time after the Vulcans make contact with Earth and humans venture out to explore. It is about a hundred years before the time of Star Trek's original series. For a diehard trekkie, it's something of a disappointment. The photography is not as good as that in the original series. The stories lack much of the qualities that make a show worth watching. The characters are not as interesting as Kirk and crew; with the exception of the doctor who is a character. There is also way too much griping about the Vulcans whom the humans perceive as holding them back from exploration. The theme song sounds like a maudlin lament; I fast-forward when it comes on. I decided to buy it because I had never seen it and I was curious. If I had seen it on television, I probably would not bought it.Read full review
Owing to TV schedule conflicts at first, I did not see about half of the first season of Star Trek: ENTERPRISE... My loss. Early on I was a little dismissive of yet another Star Trek series and was convincing myself that the producers could not launch another gem with adventures in the Star Trek timeline. I was mistaken. This DVD set is a great way for people like myself to catch-up on the history of the early days of humanity's first warp travels into deep space. The Federation doesn't even exist yet, and I think that is part of the show's allure for me... We get to see how the founding members of the United Federation of Planets come together in the first place after overcoming centuries old squabbles and attempts by outside forces to fracture the forming alliance. We learn that Humanity, after overcoming our own petty squabbles and divisiveness, becomes the catalyst for the forming of the Federation... And our guide(s) for this bumpy ride are the crew of the ENTERPRISE, headed by a very human captain portrayed most effectively by Scott Bakula in a role he could have been born for. The First Season and all successive seasons of Star Trek: ENTERPRISE are a must for trekkies, trekkers, or anyone that just wishes to experience the positive aspects of humanity in a sci-fi future setting.Read full review
This is the beginning of the vast Star Trek series. The Captain, Archer, lives up to the high standards of behaviour and morality established by Kirk, Pickard, and Janeway. It does not have all the depth of the Voyager series, but it lays the foundation of many practices we see in the other series'. For a Trekee like me it is a must have. Exciting and full of the delightful relationships we have come to expect from these adventures.
Sure this show had its problems but I think it can be forgiven, I enjoyed it. Thank you!
