P.T. Anderson needs to realize that a truly good or great film is something that satisfies, like a Snickers, or an enema. Joaqueen and Phillis chew up the scenery like really really oral archaeologists, good for them, but where's OUR meal? No, Chef Paul serves us an ordeal, and as the tepid gruel unmoved my spoon I kept thinking "When does this start... to get...something somewhere? And, how was this long smell ever approved for mass stinkage? People have better things to do other than to look at your pile, Paul, and say "Good boy!". Hated to see wonderful Laura Dern appear in this splashless plop, was she hypnotized onto the set? Paul Thom And- gasp, god, even his name is exhausting, pfft, Paul, what we want is a juicy, interesting rendezvous of a movie, Not this endless hissing fart from the smarty pants of a little snot.Read full review
Knowing something about the subject for decades and being an admirer of the actors involved, I was surprised at how awful this production was. What a waste of opportunity and talent! There are so many really interesting things in this story that could have been presented but were just ignored. It was as if Paul Thomas Anderson was purposely attempting to disgust and bore the audience at every opportunity. The actors did not have a chance!

I've always felt that the quality of any particular movie is a matter of subjectivity. The same can be said for music, food, cologne, ect. This film appealed to my individual taste in the sense that it was a unique script which was also very well directed and in regards to Joaquin Phoenix and the late Seymour Hoffman, superbly acted. Joaquins characterization is impressive and complete. Seymour seems to embody his role as a conductor of the human conscience. Amy Adams is efficient in her supporting role capacity. She's always been easy on the eyes in a manner of speaking. The bathroom scene with Seymour and herself facing the mirror is quite daring for someone of her general genre. Overall a dramatic and thought provoking film. Jim C.
an excellent value for the money
