The updated tech requires one less battery and expires in 3 more years - 10 years using two aaa's. Very satisfied replacing an identical unit that notified its expiration of 7 years at 6 years, 11 months, and 2 weeks. I guess the accuracy tells what we're getting is genuine quality stuff.
