Not producing heat. The tubes are as cold as ice throughout the heat exchanger but the supply abs return are scalding hot. Explain that one.
I bought this heat exchanger to plumb into a new hydronic heating system that I’m using a heat master outdoor wood and coal boiler to heat. At first glance the heat exchanger looked magnificent. The build quality and craftsmanship appeared to be top notch. After getting it installed, which I completed myself. I have many years experience with designing, installing and operating such equipment. So before I even begin I wanted to explain my qualifications on this equipment abs that I’m more than capable of doing so correctly. I sized the heat exchanger to fit in to the current housing and the one thing that I did differently when I designed this system, was I put the heat exchanger at a 55 degree angle to maximize the heating surface if the heat exchanger inside the rather limited plenum box that I had available. If I had layed it flat I could’ve only fit a 16x18 where as here I can fit the larger unit since it’s at an angle. I sealed around the unit to create a perfect air tight seal and began circulating the boiler water. I had started ti notice instantly that it just wasn’t producing the heat that I thought it should. I started to feel around on the piping and at first it appears to be functioning properly but after another more in depth investigation. I realize that the heat exchanger tubes are as cold as ice. But the water coming in from the stove and the water coming back out the return back to the stove are both up to temperature and even with the blower drawing air through the heat exchanger, it’s only dropping the temperature maybe a degree or so. Maybe not even that. I don’t understand how this could be happening unless a couple of the tubes are stopped up causing it to take the path of least resistance and not flowing through the tubes as it was originally designed to do. The only areas warm to the touch are the supply and return pipes and a direct path from one to the other. Can someone explain to me if this is due to the heat exchanger being installed at an angle. Or is there something wrong with the heat exchanger itself. To pay this much money for something, and I’ve had ti go purchase another source of heat to keep us warm during this winter storm becsyse we were cold. I will just send you the thing back if nobody can help me figure this out. I know the thing looks awful with the foam sealant around the perimeter but this is the best way I have found to secure the heat exchangers that I’ve installed In the past. It’s always worked magnificently. This time. Not so much
