Back in the day this was recorded, Denon made professional quality CD machines for radio stations to use for broadcast. About this time, Louis Conte's Black Forest arrived at KEZX where I was working, and we'd occasionally play some cuts from this album. I made a cassette dub of the CD, but never acquired a CD copy of my own... until now (summer 2021). It is remarkable how good the recording quality sounds when played on good modern equipment. Many of the CD's of the period were harsh and shallow sounding, but Black Forest sounds as though it were mastered for vinyl. Every time I hear this it takes me back to KEZX and the fun place it was to work. Goes without saying I suppose, that the performances are top notch, and many of the songs are interesting little "movies for your ears", kind of a Latin-jazz fusion with superb percussion, of course.Read full review
