Having all the other Roller Coaster Tycoons, I thought it was time to get the third game. Now I was really used to how the last two tycoons were set up and theis one is different. I do like how you can ride the rides you build, and yes I almost got sick on one ride! I like the setup of the old RCT games better though, it just seemed easier to like maintain the game. This new game seems like you need to pause it to get anything done. Of course in this new game, you can build build while it is paused! All-in-all, compared to the other RCT games, this one ranks good, little better than average, but that may be because I am so used to the older versions. Still a good game to buy.
The features I like are the 3D camera,Sandbox Mode where you have unlimited funds to design new rides, and the ability to import tracks from previous versions. The controls are a little difficult sometimes: The cursor has to be on grass to zoom in or out, more keyboard controls should be in the tutorial, it's hard to close some tools. Overall it's an addictive game. If you liked the original Roller Coaster Tycoon, you will like this game.
When my 8 year old first asked for this game I was skeptical as we dont normally let her play any PC game that is not educational. However, she had been doing great in school, so after some research, I okayed this. What a pleasant surprise. She was up and running within moments of getting it installed. For you parents, there is absolutely no violence, profanity or adult situations. The general idea is to imagine, design and run a theme park-complete with rides, layout, scenery, animals, trees, and customers. Educational it is not, but the gamer does have to discover and correct ride and layout designs ( the coaster has to begin and end somewhere, as an example ) as well as some minor spelling as one has to name the park and create signs. This is the second RCT3 that we have had as the first got scratched beyond use, and this one was purchased in April. Three months later she still plays it almost every day and makes changes to her parks. It's good clean fun for almost all ages. Graphics are great, too and there are I believe, expansion packs to add even more zip and bling, although not necessary. For many ages as she got this whole game idea from her 14 year old cousin. I could easily see children as young as maybe 5 or 6 all the way up to teens enjoying this game. You could consider it the cyber version of an erector set complete with sounds and people to enjoy whatever it is that you build.Read full review
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is quite different than the first two versions of the game. The graphics are much different and although you can actually "ride the rides" which is rather neat, I do not enjoy the way new graphics. I believe the first two versions were better when it comes to actually constructing the park. RCT3 actually transforms from day to night and that is pretty cool. It takes a really long time to load the game so you must be patient. The tutorial is very well done and allows you to actually participate as you learn. There is also a "sandbox mode" that allows you to be free of financial concerns and this helps while you are building. So if you like the new approach to the graphics, the game can be great. I have not played it enough to really give much more information on it's play.Read full review
Of all of the "computer" games out there, this is one I don't mind my kids spending a lot of time with. They have learned budgeting, raising funds for projects, keeping customers happy, and everything else that goes with running a profitable business. Oh, and they are having lots of fun using their creativity developing new rides for the park, as well. Just a great all-around purchase from the computer game category. I HIGHLY recommend RollerCoaster Tycoon and the other "Tycoon" series games.
