It's a good tie-in game to the first Xenosaga. Do NOT play this game first, it doesn't hold up. Gameplay is hit & miss with battles that can be slow with how, 'STOCKING' a core game mechanic works. The story is better than it's gameplay to me, but the story is not as well written as the first game. Too many boring side missions that lock away essential gameplay skills. EVERYONE learns the same skills which means the unique feel of all characters from the first game is ALMOST gone. Characters have few unique attacks yes, but that's a part of slowing the game down not making it better. With knocking enemies up or down and stocking take turns to setup while enemies rain death on you. The story kinda makes it better but the game is not as unique as it was, nor as cool as the next game Xenosaga Episode III, I LOVE KOSMOS' NEW DESIGN in that one.Read full review

The game is a decent continuation of the first game. However it takes a slower pace than the original to shed more light on its characters and the imminent danger. It sounds like it is a good thing, but it for me it further strayed from the story, losing the intense momentum the first one carried. It also downsized the character enhancement system into a more simplistic system, losing some of the customization of the first. However, this title fixed some of the problems that the combat system of the first had. All in all, If you played the first, its a shame not to play the second one. Great game, but not excellent. Thank God for the third episode!!
There is good and bad with the changes made to the game mechanics of Xenosaga II compared to I. The techs are now automatic and ethers are learned via skill points. I miss the tech development, but the addition of the stocking system is a big improvement over the guarding option in episode I. The vioce acting is not as good, especially in the first chapter, though it improves. Other than those few qualms, it is a great game. The story line is very good, and a new character is added, Jin Uzuki, who is Shion's brother. He is a great character and a welcome addition to the game. There are also a lot more side quests, from which many unique and useful items can be attained. All in all, a very good, though not perfect, sequel.
Great game, has been critized at times for creating more questions than it answers. It sets the stage for the 3rd and final episode, the graphics are not on par with Square's Final Fantasy series, but not every game can get the same kind of funding. Same fundemental gameplay is there, some elements have been corrected or improved from the previous game. If you like the first game you will like this game. I think several external factors hurt this game alot more than anyone would care to admit.
I was relieved when this game was released. This episode answered a lot of my questions from episode 1. Some of the storyline was cut as a result of the entire series being cut in half. I think the storyline could have been a little bit better if some of the material hadn't been cut. Other than that, it's still a great game. Especially with the new addition to the battle system. The new duel attack system is a system when two characters do a single, more powerful attack together. It's just too bad that episode 1 didn't have the duel battle system.
If you liked the first installment, this is the continuation. It doesn't answer some of the burning questions left behind by the first one but this one has more storyline that leaves you yearning for more. Pros: 1) Good story line 2) Good fight engine 3) Lots of CGI movies Cons: 1) Too many CGI movies (for those that doesn't like it) 2) May not be the conclusion and requires that you play the first one to really know what's going on (or you can just search online for the original story) 3) CGI graphics not as beautiful as the Final Fantasy Series
one thing that I can expect out of a game with the prefix "Xeno" is a great storyline. Xenosaga II picks up right off of Xenosaga I. The game immediately throws you into action. You will spend about 3 hours in the Memories of MOMO. I will warn you at first the games Mechanics are very confusing but after you catch on let's just say that you can do about 30,000 damage to an enemy by using boosts and combos. Xenosaga II has had som bad reveiws but don't buy them because this game is rockin, it may not be as good as number 1 and 3 but play it for the story and an RPG that you will remember for the rest of your life. The graphics are good but they changed the characters looks which made me mad but did not change what I thought of the game. The voice acting could have been better but I really don't care if a game has bad voice acting as most RPG games do. If you love Xenosaga you must get this game If you love Xenogears try out the Xenosaga Series.Read full review
Xenosaga Episode II is a excellent addition to the Xenogears/Xenosaga series. The graphics are still excellent even by today's standards, and the music while not the best still gets a 8/10 with me. The only bad thing about this addition is they changed the battle system completely from the first Xenosaga. The new battle system to me almost makes the game not worth it, however the Story more than makes up for it. If you can live with the bad Battle system then by all means get it.
This is a continuation of the last game. Like the last game The graphics and story hold up nicely. If you are a young gamer who really wants to know how games use to be or someone who has never played this when it first came out on ps2 and is revisiting that era of great games. I would highly suggest you play this after playing Xenosaga 1 of course.

This game had so much going for it, a great pre-cursor, an awesome franchise, a ton of expensive advertisements and pre-orders. But sadly it falls short. This game while having many similar elements to it's predecessor Xenosaga Episode 1, It still lacks a basic ingenuity of elements to make it worth playing. The fact that Monolith decided to remove Money and buying and selling from the game turned it from an RPG into an Action game with some RPG elements. Only problem with this is .. the game didn't have much action. It simply continues to the story for the next episode. I wouldn't recommend this game unless you can find it for under 10 dollars.
