What I like most about this compilation, is the fact that he is Sonic, a rival of Mario, now best friends. This classic game series was and still is one of my favorites. I use to not like the genesis as I was bias about it and favored the Super Nes, but after I played some of Sonic in the old days, I realized it's pretty much Mario, as an animal and, with spikes. This Playstation 2 release includes 18 sonic games as opposed to the Gamecube version which only had the 16bit Sonics included. Gameplay Gameplay is pretty easy; run and jump collecting rings for points and making your way to Doctor Robotnic and trying to avoid traps, spikes and flying bothers. Graphics Since the games are emulated the graphics are the exact same as the originals because they are the originals. sonic the Hedgehog had great graphics for it's time. the games play smooth however. Fun The games included are just as fun as their original and the PS2 controls are easy to work with. Dislike? Well, all my favorite games are included from the past but I don't dislike it yet. So no reason to wonder. If you loved or enjoyed the original Sonic games, then you too should enjoy them. The reason I bought this compilation was so that I could have the classic collection available to play when I wanted all in one game, just like the mega Man anniversary collection. Mostly this release is good for me. If you like the sonic Games, you should enjoy this one.Read full review
As the title suggest's this is a collection of Sonic the Hedgehog games from the Sega Genesis and Gamegear. It has every game from those two systems on one disc. Very Excellent. Nothing is new, no new graphics of glitch free play. It will play exactly the way you remember...except now you can save, even in the middle of a board, which makes beating each game a sinch. But it's about having fun and reliving memories not about showing your friends how awesome you are at sonic. Saving and loading does take WAY too much time though. A few awesome games are missing from other misc. SEGA systems Sega cd etc... which would have been nice but this is an excellent game for the price. learing curve is about 5 mins. You can beat each of the genesis games in a few hours each. Have FUN!
If you are looking for hours of classic Sonic Sega fun then you've found it. This collection includes all the original games that hooked millions of players years ago. Not much has been changed to these original games so don't expect up to date graphics or anything else. But that's the idea - here you get a classic piece of video game history that provides hours of speedy, side-scrolling fun. If you're looking for something to remind you of the good old days then don't bother buying an old system and searching for the old games when you can get some of the best of them right here with this package. If you want something new and exciting then check out some other game the Xbox has to offer.
This game deserves a lot more than others have given it. Some give it a 6 or a 7 out of 10. Me i choose 4/5 or if i could a 4.5/5. Why? Because when and if you played it on the original Sega Genesis, you play it now and it feels just like the original itself. The SFX and music all sound the same. Just like Burnout, if you have saves from either of the new Sonic games you get other games besides Sonic, like Comix Zone or The Ooze. This mega-collection is such a rarity in that it feels just like the original itself, but on the modern system. Every 16-bit Sonic goodness that you played before is here. All of the memories come back when you played it before. Like any other games of its sort, you can unlock other Sonic games by playing it for an extended it period, you can unlock all the other sonic games. Thusly, this Sonic game(s) creates the original Sonic on you modern system. No more goofy controls or different types of generations(racing to adventure), but you get the classic jump, spin dash, Tails flying, and combo with him and Sonic when flying. This is a game that won't disappoint you, whether you are a Sonic fan or just know him. :)Read full review
For everyone that played any or all of the old Sonic games on the Sega Genesis this is a nice collection of all the games released on the system. The controls are spot on for the PS2. Granted the graphics and sounds are dated, but they are still as bright and fun as you remember. Perfectly safe for the younger players where even the monsters aren't really scary. My only dislike about the game is you have to unlock features by playing the game. I'd rather just have the features.
