Incredibly compelling 9 episode Chris Carter series from 1999 with a strong MATRIX influence. Not marketed or scheduled correctly so it was cut short. Way ahead of its time in its exploration of virtual reality. Scott Bairstow is especially engaging as the lead character. Ended with a huge, never to be resolved cliffhanger. Extremely watchable and very entertaining.

Harsh Realm was a short lived series that didn't get a chance. I purchased it because of Terry O'Quinn(Locke)from LOST and D.B. Sweeney from The Cutting Edge which also has Terry O'Quinn in it. Anyway, Harsh Realm is about a government launched virtual reality game gone bad. Terry O'Quinn plays the bad guy which is also very reminiscent of Locke, he does an excellent job. D.B. also does a great job, the lead is good also. The cast of characters is good, the premise is interesting, it makes you think (which is probably why it was cancelled), those network executives don't like to think too much. I highly recomend this series, short lived as it was.
The Harsh Realm concept is great. Very much like the Matrix in the sense of the messianic theme. Not sure on execution though. Production values are good and there are some very creative minds behind the technology aspect of the show. The biggest disappointment is that no one will know how it ends. I imagine, they get Santiago in the end but who knows. I think DB Sweeney did a great job. Too bad the show was canceled a long time ago. Oh well.
Greetings, I bought this box set because it was from the creator of X-Files. I was disappointed. Not what I expected and not the quality of writing you would expect from Chris Carter. I rated it as Average because there where a few good bits - very few. It just ended. Left you hanging in the air. It should really be rated below average. Don't buy if you can rent this one. Sorry.
this show was before it's time if it had aired after the matrix i think it would have had a good run the show it's self is engaging and has all those elements that a scfi fan looks for so enjoy
