I purchased this movie for use in a 10th grade high school English class after we finished reading the book. I understand that there are two film versions of this book available. I have not seen the newer (color) version, but one student who saw both said he prefers this one because it is more faithful to the book. Also, I understand that the newer version has harsh language that might be objectionable in class. This one contains mild nudity, but I sent home a permission slip and none of the students were bothered or distracted by it (although it might cause a scandal in a junior high classroom!). The production quality is low by today's standards but impressive considering the constraints of the film's production team. It was produced on a low budget with limited resources.
Was good movie

The original "Lord of the Flies" was very well done for its time. The actors and plot were interesting to follow. Like the author of the book, it has the original British feel to it. I bought this DVD, because it is a great collector's item worth watching over and over.
