I bought this item because it is one of those rare videos you really do not come across very often these days. The movie itself is an average cult-classic along with its 3-D remake which came out three years ago in early 2009. As for the 1981 original, I would not have purchased the film if it was a Paramount copy released in the late 80s or from the 90s because the first version of the movie, also from 81, is just a really vintage item. But, I do recommend the Unrated DVD that recently came out as promotion for the remake back in 09. I think that has generally been the preferred cut of the movie because when My Bloody Valentine was theatrically released 31 years ago, the MPAA gave it an R-rating, but first they had to drastically edit and butcher all of the death sequences in order to obtain that rating back then. Despite bootleg copies, it then took about 28 years for the unrated version to officially come out on DVD and Blu-ray and in my opinion, there is quite a difference and that cut is definitely better. The Unrated has Friday the 13th type of gore and an extended ending as well. With the theatrical R version, not that it is a bad thing, but the violence is so tame that if it was not for a couple really bloody scenes and about a half dozen uses of the F-word, this movie could have passed for PG-13, even though back then, the PG-13 rating was not created until 1984. Anyway, another thing I like about the tape I bought was that its box was in really good condition and the VHS played fine too. The only thing that was unfortunate was that for the tape itself, the top or face label was missing, but it probably had just fallen off years ago. Its side label was also torn off, leaving only the title, but that is all that matters and I additionally knew all of this before I made the transaction in the first place because the photos displayed by the seller were so detailed and I really appreciate that. There had been other products which I bought in the past that were pretty misleading, but that was not the case this time around. In conclusion, My Bloody Valentine is an okay horror movie that is at least worth renting by any fan of the genre. It really did not surprise me to find out that Quentin Tarantino considers this film to be his favorite slasher of all-time. I also think that it is very stylish and creative. In my opinion, it is definitely among the top ten most original slashers ever and there was additionally a lot of potential left in its ending to spawn a franchise, but I do not know whatever happened to that idea. Like Michael Myers, obviously from the Halloween movies and Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th series, the miner used in My Bloody Valentine has an iconic appearance, and brandishes a pickaxe as his primary murder weapon of choice. It is sort of amazing that there were not at least four sequels made to this because that was basically the horror movie trend in the 1980s, a sequel made to a slasher, thus creating a successful franchise. In the end, that is what I thought about the product and I hope that my review was somewhat helpful to you.Read full review
