"The move is excellent, a sad part is there is a movie out today which is as compelling as this,(Jose Sanchez Del Rio in "For Greater Glory" an independent film) but Hollywood has gone commie-amoral- in the end, McCarthy was right-" _____ Stupid is as stupid is. I'd ask if you're paid to be stupid, or if you are stupid for free, but you're too stupid to know. _____ The realities are that there is no shortage of "conservatives" in Hollywood -- one of whom talks to an empty chair. _____ McCarthy was a crackpot, a liar, and a bully -- thug -- who drank himself to death. _____ When McCarthy, in the Senate, held up a piece of paper and said it had hundreds of names of "Communists" on it, the paper was actually BLANK. His ranting and raving had nothing to do with reality, and everything to do with power. By comparison, Henry VIII was at least not a nut and a drunk. _____ This film deserves all its accolades -- the screenplay, the costuming and sets, and the cinematography are all superb. _____ The story and characters are richly complex -- an extraordinary display of ethical reasoning (by Sir Thomas More) and ruthless cunning (Henry VIII). A towering battle between Henry VIII's freedom of conscience ("divine right of kings": "religon" as state), and Sir Thomas More's freedom of conscience ("religion" against state), each claiming to be professing the "Word of God". _____ What it doesn't deserve is for the hem of its garment to be besmirched by associating to it the illiterate comments of bigots, such as the uneducated nonsense about McCarthy. Freedom of "religon" necessarily includes freedom FROM "religion," else one not be able to choose from among the various "religions" available. _____ To the "reviewer" quoted: Sir Thomas More wrote an enduring volume titled "Utopia". THIS Classic Movie explains the separation of the English from the Pope in Rome it a way that shows the personal struggle of Sir. Thomas Moore. It shows what life was like in that time. The dialogue is outstanding as well as the costumes and locations. Every actor is at the top of their game. Great Movie.

This movie tells it like it is. King Henry the VIII held lots of power (even over the church). Those opposed to the King were beheaded. Sir Thomas Moore was one such person and met that end.

The print seems slightly dark--at least from my memory of it. Otherwise, it plays perfectly. It's a film I have long wanted to own.
