It's that great mid-70's funk groove from the pre-eminent horn band, Tower of Power. By this album, the set list was becoming a bit formulaic---and that ain't bad, if you liked the formula to begin with, and I'm for that! There is danceable high-energy funk and some great ballads, a humorous comment on the human condition---in fact there are two: "You Ought to Be Havin'Fun" and "Make Someone Happy". Both tracks carry that optimism I've always loved in this band. The horn section is stable with personnel who both write and play. The new lead singer, contributes some writing, and the drummer carries his own; how can he lose with with Prestia on bass and Bruce Conte's understated, almost simple leads, which are combined with white hot rhythm guitar work? There's more good humour with "Can't Stand to See the Slaughter", and you gotta smile with the mid-tempo groove "It's so Nice". "Deal With It" brings the sass to the tracks. You just get real drawn in by the organ groove and bass pedal intro on the title track, since it really says they 'came to play'. Always enjoyable, and great fun!Read full review
