This is a great 5.1 surround sound music DVD to have, although can be a bit pricey at places, (my DVD cost me $39.00. Not too bad compared to other 5.1 DVD mixes) Once you sit between the speakers, close your eyes, and you will be amazed at the very interesting mixes, isolated sounds you never knew were there, all provided by Pete Townsend himself. That makes this music mix even more worthwhile. Originally I wanted this in quad and realized it was never released in quad, but discovering it was remixed in 5.1 by Townsend, I couldn't resist. I think all WHO fans, and especially fans of the Tommy Double album, will be very pleased indeed! And you also get an additional DVD mix of Pete Townsend interview on recording, and remixing to 5.1 by Mr Townsend. Additionally on the discs are some Tommy Outtakes and studio laughter and jolly chatter. As you feel like you're sneaking a peek into their studio time, during their creation of Tommy! Wonderful experience. Definitely in my favorites category.Read full review
I've owned multiple copies of all the different versions of "Tommy" through the years. While I'm a big fan of the London Symphony version, there's no beating the original. Having been through three LPs, two reel tapes, countless cassette copies, and a disappointing first pressing CD; I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this release. The Overture and Pinball Wizard really sound great when wound out on a big system (I still don't live in the world of Ipods and earbuds). By the same token, I can listen at a more moderate level, or in the car, without missing any of the detail. If you are the least bit a Who fan, or if your beloved vinyl is worn smooth, this should be in your collection. Mike Conley Dardenne Prairie, MO
This is a recording I am familiar with as a vinyl LP. I'm impressed with the sound quality of the CD inspite of my misgivings about MCAs ability to produce a quality product. I had been thinking about "Tommy" for a while. Some of the themes of the recording had been going through my head for a while so when I saw it on line for a measily $1.50 I took a chance and was pleasently surprised. Thanks to Pete, Roger, John and of course, Keith. You guys are the best. R.I.P. to Keith and John, the rhythm section of one of Rock and Roll's classic acts. This is a "must have" album from the '70s which was a rather bleak time in musical history except for a few shining stars. This is one.
The 1996 remaster of Tommy is the best of all of the remasters, especially the 2013 one. There is slight speaker scratch, which is common with old and new recordings, but all levels are perfect, not like the 2013 one, where the voices, and all the other highs, are way too high. I own both, mainly the 2013 draw is the live bootleg that comes with it, just to collect it. Tommy Live at Hull is a much better live version anyway. The 96 version is awesome, and if you're looking for something that sounds original, but better, this is the way to go.

I recently bought my first Who cd & it was so good i had to have more of the old stuff. I had seen the movie Tommy, so i knew there was good hard rock music in it. But the cd is so much better because all vocals are by the who. They truly were a great band. The music is great vintage 69' rock from start to finish & words don't truly tell how good it really is to a 70's rock fan. Absolutly a must have for the fan of vintage rock.
