Telling Stories is the fifth album by American singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman, released in 2000 (see 2000 in music). It was her first album in over four years, and her first since Crossroads to be produced or co-produced by David Kershenbaum. A special 2CD tour edition of this album was also released in May 2000, supporting the tour going on at the time. The album is composed of contemporary rock songs in the first half, and folk songs in the second half. The song "Unsung Psalm" was originally written for her previous album, New Beginning, but it didn't make it onto the album.
Tracy Chapman once again brings each song to life as her voice, words, and tone of her voice gives the listener a feeling of being one of her closest family members or friends that she is confiding to, sharing her joy or sorrows with. When you listen to Telling Stories you feel as if you are part of the story or that you are listening to her sing about her problems or joys instead of talking about them and her soulful sound along with her R&B, Jazz undertones you really are brought into the music, into the stories of her life. She tells the stories of life It is an engaging and wonderful cd and highly recommended Albert Torcaso
I thoroughly enjoyed her self-titled album "Tracy Chapman" and "Crossroads" because each album was full of songs I liked. "Telling Stories" may grow on me in time, but I only really liked the songs Telling Stories and Wedding Song. The disc itself is an HDCD but it doesn't sound so great to me.
