20 Million Miles to Earth was released in 1957 in the US. Staring William Hopper, (who also made several other sci-fi/horror films), Joan Taylor and Frank Puglia. The film features some of the best stop motion animation from the legendary Ray Harryhausen. Returning from a trip to Venus, astronauts crash into the sea near a small Sicilian village. Col. Robert Calder, (William Hopper), is the only survivor. They brought back with them a specimen sealed in a metal cylinder. The cylinder gets washed ashore and found by a local boy who sells it to a visiting scientist. It soon hatches out and grows to incredible size. It breaks free and goes on a rampage. Please Note: Some younger children may find one of the scenes in this film upsetting. In one scene the creature fights an elephant and the elephant is killed. A 7 year old relation of mine began to cry at this point. If you have very young children you may wish to skip this one. All in all a very good movie. It is still shown on tv from time to time but for sci-fi/horror fans you simply have to buy the DVD for your collection. Originally filmed in B&W, a color version was later released in 2007. It was also released as The Beast from Space. B&W/Color Runtime: Around 1 Hour 30 Minutes. Unrated.Read full review
Joan Taylor is a beauty to behold. The story is okay, with Harihausen stop motion content you cannot miss. The "Creature" is as always one of the best content elements. It is a budget production once again, so do not expect Cleopatra like sets and costuming. Black and white is the complementary format. Great memories of 15-25 cents matinees to avoid the summer heat at 1:00 in the afternoon, in air conditioned theaters, Relive that childhood thru this sci if classic from the 50's

One of the earliest Ray Harryhausn monster movies in glorious back and white. This one rates the best. I recommend this film to any die hard sci Fi fan as well as any Kaiju fan. If you haven't seen this movie, it's not too late.

Somewhat cheesy by today's standards, but for the time the special effects were cutting-edge! For fans of older, classic sci-fi this is a good one to have in your collection.
