I"ve always liked "Charade", a frothy film cross between Hitchcock and Blake Edwards' Pink Panther style. Along with the Henri Mancini score, of course. So when I saw this remake, I was hoping the fun flirtatious vibe was not ruined. Happily, it exceeded my expectations, with a great cast, and music that's so much fun that it alone is worth the price.

"The Truth About Charlie" is a remake of "Charade". Luckily, a copy of "Charade", which starred Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, George Kennedy, James Coburn, and Walter Matthau comes with it. Someone once said, "The greatest Hitchcock movie ever made was "Charade", except Hitchcock didn't make it." This is very true, and why anyone would try to remake this classic is beyond me. The plot deals with the murder of Mrs. Lambert's husband, Charley, a man who has stolen a great deal of money. His partners want their share, and they are convinced that his wife has it. Mrs. Lambert actually has no idea where the money is, putting her in great danger. The actors and the director of the remake are not up to the task of filling the shoes of the stars of the original.
Loved the campy take on the original story. Newton and Mark Wahlberg make a cute couple.
