Well if you liked Rage Against the Machine and/or Soundgarden, then you really should have no problems enjoying Audioslave. They take the music of Rage Against the Machine - slow it down a little, perhaps not so wild and chaotic sounding - then add the vocals of the former Soundgarden lead singer, and you get Audioslave. As I said, the music doesn't exactly sound like either of the former bands. It's not so jumoy and up and down as RATM sound once was, but it's not so heavy as Soundgarden was. It blends similar elements from both to present a very good sound. There's some great guitar moments that will remind you of both bands, but overall the sound is something quite new. There's a decent sounding bass line for pretty much every song, some great guitar solos and Cornell's voice is still in tip-top shape and he shows it by singing loudly, quietly, softly, slowly and with just great balance. This album has many great songs, but the only thing that might turn some people is that many songs have lengths pushing 4 or more minutes. Now, some of us don't mind, but many people seem to have ADD when it comes to music and cannot tolerate songs that aren't about 2:30 to 3 minutes long. If you don't like medium to long length songs, then perhaps Audioslave is not for you. Their sound also presents a variety, at times sounding heavy, jazzy, popish, etc. They really stretch every song and sound for what it's worth to present a really fresh sounding album.Read full review
This is a very good CD....just not excellent. There was nothing really memorable about it. I heard "Like A Stone" on a rock station and I liked it, so I bought the CD. I've played it a few times and I enjoy it but it hasn't affected me enough that I want to wear it out. Maybe it will grow on me and I'll have to revise my review. Now I'm going to eat a little crow. I'll admit it took me a while to get the total affect of Audioslave but I finally realized how great they are. They are a sensuous, jazzy, hard rock treat. I've fallen in love with Chris Cornell's sexy, raspy, sandpaper voice. I'll definitely be buying more Audioslave.
Sadly now a historic CD after the death of Chris Cornell. This album has many popular songs and maybe the whole list of songs is flawless. Is interesting the blending of his powerful voice with the musical skill and soul of RATM musicians.

The road is twisted and long gone before you know it. If your thinking about making a life change, find a reason to drive somewhere and press play. "Like a Stone", "Shadow of the Sun", and "I am the Highway" are some of the best cuts ever etched into musical stone. This album will bring back memories, pull on your adrenaline and put lead in your foot.
Chris Cornell with Rage. It works well. Funky guitar riffs and good bass lines combined with awesome vocals creates a powerful sound. If you like Soundgarden and/or Rage Against the Machine, you should give Audioslave a listen.
